Girls’ Basketball Manhandles Lake in 1st Round of D-II Sectionals, 63-23

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team manhandled Lake, 63-23, in the 1st round of the Division II sectionals on Thursday in the Sullivan Center. With the postseason win, the Fighting Irish improve to 16-7 on the season.

Senior Corniya Clay paced the Scarlet & Gray with a game-high 19 points, while sophomore Serenity Bolden and senior Brooklyn Vaughn also contributed double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Brooke Wiley finished with 9 points to lead the No. 12 seed Flyers (9-14).

Ranked as the No. 6 seed in Northwest 2 District-Old Fort, Central Catholic will now play No. 3 seed Shelby in the sectional finals on Saturday, February 24 at 7 p.m. at Shelby High School (1 Whippet Way, Shelby, 44875).  The Whippets defeated No. 15 seed Rossford, 61-18, in the opening round of the state tournament.  

Tickets for Saturday’s postseason contest MUST be purchased online at OHSAA.org/tickets (Basketball, Basketball – Girls, Division II, February 24, Find Game, Get Tickets).  General admission tickets cost $5 for students and $8 for adults.  Please note, all students MUST purchase a ticket to attend the game.
