Boys’ Basketball Dominates Anthony Wayne in Season Opener, 73-51

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team opened its 2023-24 season with an impressive 73-51 victory against Anthony Wayne on Saturday at the AWHS Main Gym. With the road triumph, the Fighting Irish improve to 1-0 on the season.

Freshman Isaiah Mack-Russell paced the Scarlet & Gray with 20 points, while freshman Cayden Kynard had 12 points and sophomore Jakob Johnson contributed 10.

Griffin Pike led the host Generals (1-1) with a game-high 23 points, followed by Hayden Bender with 13 points.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team suffered a 38-24 setback vs. the Generals, while the junior varsity squad claimed a 43-40 road triumph.

The Fighting Irish will return to the court against arch-rival St. Francis de Sales on Friday, Dec. 15 at 7:15 p.m. in the Sullivan Center.
