Girls’ Basketball Drops 2 Games at Hoban Hoopfest Over Weekend in Akron
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team lost 2 games at the Hoban Hoopfest over the weekend in the Hoban Barry Gymnasium in Akron. The Fighting Irish suffered a 64-48 setback against North Allegheny (PA) on Saturday and dropped a 57-49 decision vs. the host Knights on Sunday. With the pair of close losses, CCHS falls to 2-2 on the season.
The Fighting Irish’s dynamic duo of senior Brooklyn Vaughn and classmate Corniya Clay scored in double figures in both non-league contests.
Vaughn paced CCHS with 18 points and 9 rebounds vs. North Allegheny. Clay added 12 points and a team-high 5 assists, while sophomore Ava Pietras had 11 points.
A 2-time All-Ohio selection, Vaughn posted a double-double against Akron Hoban, finishing with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 steals. Clay chipped in 11 points and sophomore Serinity Bolden tallied 9 points.
In junior varsity action, CCHS claimed a 32-29 victory vs. the Tigers on Saturday and sustained a 28-26 setback against Akron Archbishop Hoban on Sunday.
The Fighting Irish will return to the court against rival St. Ursula Academy on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 3:30 p.m. in the Sullivan Center. A season ago, the Scarlet & Gray swept both games against the Arrows, securing a 54-48 road victory and a 50-45 home triumph.
