Boys’ Basketball Takes Advantage of Decisive 2nd Period to Top No. 3 Seed Bowling Green in D-II Sectional Semifinal, 77-49

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team registered an emphatic 77-49 victory against No. 3 seed Bowling Green in the Division II sectional semifinals on Friday at BGHS.  With the postseason win, CCHS improves to 10-14 on the season.

The No. 5 seed Fighting Irish trailed the Bobcats 12-11 after the 1st quarter, before outscoring the hosts 24-8 over the next 8 minutes to help them secure their 4th-straight win.

Sophomore Manny Johnson paced the Scarlet & Gray with a season-high 26 points, to go along with 8 rebounds, and 6 steals.

Sophomore Draden Wardrop added 16 points, followed closely by freshman Isaiah Mack-Russell with 15 points.

CCHS’s 3-headed monster of Johnson, Wardrop, and Mack-Russell combined for 57 of the team’s 77 points.

Jacob Amspoker led the Bobcats with 16 points, while Ahmir Ruffin tallied 15 points.

The Fighting Irish will return to the hardwood against No. 1 seed Wauseon in the district semifinals of Northwest 1 District – Millbury of the OHSAA State Tournament on Thursday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m. at Lake High School.  Tickets are currently available at www.ohsaa.org/tickets.
