Boys’ Basketball Outlasts Fremont Ross in Overtime, 67-65

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team fought, scratched and clawed its way to a 67-65 overtime victory against Fremont Ross on Tuesday in the “Purple Pit.” With the extra period win, CCHS improves to 17-4 overall, 9-4 in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

Junior Chico Johnson paced the visiting Fighting Irish with a game-high 25 points and seven rebounds.

Senior Sam Lee added 16 points and a contest-best 10 boards to post a double-double for the victorious Scarlet & Gray.

Kaden Holmes poured in 21 points to lead the host Little Giants (8-13, 3-10 TRAC), while Ayden Carter and Carter Rodriguez contributed 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team registered a 38-28 victory against Fremont Ross, while the junior varsity squad claimed a 43-25 triumph.

Central Catholic, which stands tied for No. 6 in this week’s Associated Press Division II state poll, will wrap up its regular season against TRAC rival Whitmer on Friday, Feb. 18. Freshman will begin the action versus the Panthers at 4:45 pm in the Whitmer Fieldhouse, followed by the junior varsity and varsity at 6 pm and 7:30 pm, respectively. Back on Jan. 11, the Fighting Irish secured a hard fought 53-48 triumph vs. the Panthers at home.
