Boys’ Basketball Ousts Perrysburg at Home, 65-59

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team extended its winning streak to 3-consecutive games with a 65-59 victory against Perrysburg on Friday in the Sullivan Center. With the impressive non-league home triumph, the Fighting Irish improve to 4-5 on the season.

Freshman Isaiah Mack-Russell led a balanced Scarlet & Gray offense with 19 points and 10 rebounds to post a double-double. Sophomore Draden Wardrop (13 pts.), senior Isaiah Brenneman (11 pts.), and sophomore Manny Johnson (10 pts.) also scored in double figures for the home team.

The Yellow Jackets (5-3) were paced by Austin Shultz with a game-high 31 points, which included 9 treys. Perrysburg’s next high scorer was Gavin Fenneken with 10 points.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team lost 49-35 vs. Perrysburg, while the junior varsity squad suffered a narrow 41-40 home setback.

The Fighting Irish will return to action against arch-rival St. John's Jesuit on Tuesday, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Titan Dome. Tickets are currently available at https://bit.ly/3PKFfIV. A year ago, CCHS swept the regular-season series vs. SJJ, winning 56-41 at home (December 16) and 62-46 on the road (January 20).
