Boys’ Basketball Pulls Away Late from Non-League Foe Start at Home, 45-37
The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team registered a 45-37 win against Start on Saturday in the Sullivan Center. With the come-from-behind victory on “Senior Night,” CCHS improves to 17-4 overall.
The Fighting Irish outscored the City League foe Spartans 17-8 in the pivotal 4th quarter to stretch their winning streak to 3-consecutive games.
Junior Isaiah Brenneman led the state-ranked Scarlet & Gray with 10 points. Senior Ty’Waun Clark and sophomore Tim Boals Jr. each contributed 8 points, while sophomore Makhi Leach had 7 points.
Romeo Hightower paced Start (15-5) with a game-high 21 points, followed by Stone Edwards with 11 points.
Earlier in the afternoon, the CCHS freshman team claimed a 46-32 triumph against the Spartans, while the junior varsity squad registered a 49-31 home win.
Ranked No. 6 in this week’s Associated Press Division II state poll, Central Catholic will wrap its regular season at Clay on Friday, Feb. 17. The opening tip vs. the Eagles is scheduled for 7:30 pm in the Potter Field House. Tickets for Friday’s regular-season finale MUST be pre-purchased online at https://bit.ly/3DgukzS. Back on Jan. 13, CCHS defeated Clay 68-24 in the Sullivan Center.
With a win against the Eagles next Friday, the Fighting Irish will secure at least a share of the Three Rivers Conference championship. CCHS is currently tied with Whitmer for the league’s top spot after beating the Panthers, 54-43, on Friday at home. Whitmer hosts Fremont Ross on Friday.
