Boys’ Basketball Takes Down TRAC Frontrunner Whitmer at Home, 54-43
The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team secured an impressive 54-43 victory against rival Whitmer on Friday before 1,022 fans in the Sullivan Center. With the home win, CCHS improves to 16-4 overall, 10-3 in the league.
More importantly, the Fighting Irish moved into a tie with the Panthers (13-8, 10-3 TRAC) for the top spot in the TRAC standings with only 1 league game remaining for both teams.
The Scarlet & Gray outscored Whitmer 32-20 in the second half to successfully bounce back from a 56-45 setback on Jan. 10 in the Whitmer Field House.
Junior Isaiah Brenneman topped the state-ranked Fighting Irish with 13 points and 7 rebounds, while the trio of senior Michael Greenlee Jr., senior Ty’Waun Clark, and sophomore Makhi Leach each added 8 points.
Antione West paced the visiting Panthers with a game-high 17 points on 5-of-23 shooting from the field.
Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team suffered a 32-20 loss against the Panthers, while the junior varsity squad registered a 41-29 home triumph.
Ranked No. 6 in this week’s Associated Press Division II state poll, Central Catholic returns to the hardwood versus Toledo Start this evening. The Fighting Irish will honor seniors Brian Bishop, Ty’Waun Clark, Michael Greenlee Jr., Chico Johnson, Kechan Johnson Jr., and Noah Langford following the conclusion of tonight’s junior varsity contest.
