Boys’ Basketball Returns to Winning Ways vs. Anthony Wayne, 65-56

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team returned to its winning ways, claiming a 65-56 victory against Anthony Wayne on Saturday in the Sullivan Center. With the non-conference triumph on “Senior Night,” CCHS improves to 16-3 on the season.

The Fighting Irish, ranked No. 4 in last week’s Associated Press Division II state poll, put forth a balanced attack against the Generals to successful bounce back from Tuesday’s tough loss at Three Rivers Athletic Conference foe Findlay.

Junior Chico Johnson paced CCHS with 15 points. Senior Micah Thames also contributed 13 points, followed closely by senior Sam Lee and freshman Makhi Leach with 11 each.

Jacob Copley led the Generals (7-10) with a contest-best 21 points, while Collin Parker and Aiden Schmenk each had 10.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team registered a 40-26 victory against Anthony Wayne, while the junior varsity squad dropped a tough 44-43 decision in overtime.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against TRAC rival Lima Senior on Friday, Feb. 11. Freshman will begin the action versus the Spartans at 4:45 pm in the Sullivan Center, followed by the junior varsity and varsity at 6 pm and 7:30 pm, respectively. Back on Jan. 7, the Fighting Irish dropped a 70-56 decision at Lima Senior. Tickets are available at CentralCatholic.org/tickets.
