Girls’ Basketball Suffers First Loss of Season vs. Springfield, 55-53

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team suffered a tough 55-53 setback vs. Springfield on Saturday in the Sullivan Center. With the non-conference loss, CCHS falls to 17-1 on the season.

The visiting Blue Devils outscored the Fighting Irish 19-15 in the pivotal fourth quarter to hand the Scarlet & Gray its first loss of the season.

Junior Mary Ellis led Central Catholic with 15 points, while sophomore Corniya Clay and classmate Brooklyn Vaughn each scored 13.

Kendall Carruthers paced Springfield (15-3) with a game-high 19 points and Gretchen Sigman scored 16.

Earlier in the afternoon, the CCHS junior varsity registered a 40-35 triumph vs. Springfield.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against Sylvania Southview on Monday, Feb. 7. The junior varsity game will begin at 6 pm in the Southview Gym, followed by the varsity contest at 7:15 pm. Tickets are available at https://bit.ly/3J9f8VG.
