Boys’ Basketball Falters vs. Rival St. John's Jesuit at Home, 53-49

The Central Catholic boys' basketball team suffered a 53-49 setback vs. St. John's Jesuit on Friday in the Sullivan Center.  With the non-league loss, the Fighting Irish fall to 8-3 on the season.

Sophomore Isaiah Mack-Russell paced the Scarlet & Gray with a game-high 26 points and 9 rebounds.  A 2023-24 Division II Honorable Mention All-Ohio honoree, Mack-Russell has poured in at least 20 points on 4 occasions this season.

Junior Draden Wardrop also contributed 13 points and 7 boards vs. the rival Titans.  CCHS played without junior Manny Johnson, who missed the game due to a shoulder injury suffered against St. Francis de Sales on Tuesday.

Ethan James paced SJJ (7-5) with 17 points, followed closely by Jayden James and Coy Hamic with 15 and 14 points, respectively.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team sustained a 49-27 loss vs. St. John's Jesuit at home, while the junior varsity squad claimed a 59-46 triumph.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against St. Francis de Sales on Tuesday, January 21, starting with the freshmen game at 4:15 p.m. in the Pit.  This past Tuesday, the Fighting Irish registered a 62-40 victory vs. the Knights at home.  Tickets for Tuesday’s non-conference matchup can be purchased at bit.ly/48e04CE.
