Boys’ Basketball Steamrolls Woodward in 1st Round of Division II Sectionals, 65-13

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team steamrolled Woodward, 65-13, in the 1st round of the Division II sectionals on Tuesday in the Sullivan Center. With the postseason win, CCHS improves to 9-14 on the season.

The Fighting Irish utilized a balanced attack against the Polar Bears (5-17) to help them stretch their winning streak to a season-tying best 3 games.

Freshman Isaiah Mack-Russell paced the Scarlet & Gray with 15 points, followed by senior Isaiah Brenneman with 10 points.

CCHS also benefitted from strong efforts from sophomore Manny Johnson (9 pts.), sophomore Draden Wardrop (8 pts.), freshman Cayden Kynard (7 pts.), junior D’Haron Flowers (6 pts.), and sophomore Cailan Hornbeak (6 pts.) en route to posting its largest margin of victory this season.

Chris Chisholm and Daudi Dotson each scored 4 points for No. 11 seed Woodward.

Ranked as the No. 5 seed in Northwest 1 District-Millbury, Central Catholic will now play No. 3 seed Bowling Green in the sectional finals on Friday, March 1 at 7 p.m. at BGHS (530 W Poe Rd., Bowling Green, 43402). 

Tickets for Friday’s postseason contest MUST be purchased online at OHSAA.org/tickets (Basketball, Basketball – Boys, Division II, March 1, Find Game, Get Tickets).  General admission tickets cost $5 for students and $8 for adults.  Please note, all students MUST purchase a ticket to attend the game.
