Central Catholic Captures 3 Titles at Division II Track & Field State Championship

The Central Catholic girls’ and boys’ track & field teams participated in the Division II State Championship over the weekend at Welcome Stadium on the campus of the University of Dayton.  The 2 programs combined to capture 3 state titles at the 2-day meet.

A total of 7 CCHS student-athletes qualified for the 116th-annual Boys’ and 49th-annual Girls’ Ohio High School Athletic Association Track & Field State Championship. 

Overall, the girls’ squad finished 3rd for the 2nd-straight year with 28 points, while the boys’ team placed tied for 18th with 12 points

On the girls’ side, junior Nyla King successfully defended her state championship in the in the 100-meter dash (11.99).  King also crossed the finish line 1st in the 200-meter dash (24.41) and placed 2nd in the 400-meter dash (55.27).  With this weekend’s efforts, she is now a 7-time state champion.

On the boys’ side, sophomore Victor Singleton, Jr. secured a state title in the long jump (22-0.50).  Singleton also ran the 3rd leg of the 4×400-meter relay (3:26.14) that took 7th place. He was joined in the relay by junior Jerry Barnes, sophomore Jerome Davis, and junior Anthony Lawrence, Jr.

In addition, senior Elijah Williams registered 17th place in the shot put (47-3.75) and sophomore Ian Smith finished 17th in the long jump (17-5.75).
