Central Catholic Celebrates Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Week is an annual initiative led by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) to celebrate the excellence and impact of Catholic schools.  Each year since 1974, Catholic schools observe the celebration through a variety of activities, emphasizing the importance of Catholic education.

This year the celebration takes place Sunday, Jan. 29 through Saturday, Feb. 4.  The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2023 is Catholic Schools: Faith. Excellence. Service.  Throughout next week, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities, and our nation.

“Catholic Schools Week offers our school community a chance to celebrate our Catholic identity and promote the amazing opportunities offered in our educational home,” said Central Catholic’s Campus Minister Julie McCourt.  “Through the specific lens of our Catholic heritage, Central Catholic High School is proud to showcase our commitment to our parishes, students, nation, vocations, staffulty, and families!”

The following themes have been created for each day of Catholic Schools Week, and this is how Central Catholic High School will be celebrating:

Sunday - Celebrate Your Parish
We encourage our students to go to Mass with a friend and/or their family and to take a selfie before or after church for us to share.

Monday - Celebrate Your Community
Central Catholic will celebrate our Irish community and share who we are as a Catholic school through an activity in our Mentor Monday groups.

Tuesday - Celebrate Your Students
Some of our students will visit Rosary Cathedral School to connect and work with the elementary school students there.  We will also have hot chocolate and a special treat for all students provided by our Parent Impact committee.

Wednesday - Celebrate Our Nation
CCHS will have an all-school Mass followed by a pie-in-the-face fundraiser, with proceeds going to the local office of Catholic Charities.  Students will pay for the privilege of putting a pie in the face of different staffulty members.  Catholic Charities USA was founded over a century ago by men and women who believed that the collective efforts of the church to faithfully serve people in need could change the course of poverty in our nation.

Thursday - Celebrate Vocations
Students are encouraged to dress like a saint, specifically the patron saint of their desired career.  Their research will help them learn more about the saints and think about their own potential vocations.

Friday - Celebrate Faculty, Staff, and Volunteers
Parent Impact will provide coffee and donuts for CCHS staffulty before classes begin.
