Central Catholic Celebrates Catholic Schools Week (Jan. 26-Feb. 1)

Catholic Schools Week is an annual initiative led by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) to celebrate the excellence and impact of Catholic schools.  Each year since 1974, Catholic schools observe the celebration through a variety of activities, emphasizing the importance of Catholic education.

This year the celebration takes place Sunday, January 26 through Saturday, February 1.  The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2025 is Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community.  This theme will be used through 2026.  Throughout the week, schools focus on the value of Catholic education for young people and its contributions to our church, our communities, and our nation.

“Catholic Schools Week is a week that by its purpose and design is meant to feel different from every other week of the year,” said Fr. Kevin Moebius (Class of 1999), Central Catholic’s Priest Leader.  “It is meant to call us back to our very mission, that Christ is the foundation of Catholic education and the purpose for everything we do.  I love how every Catholic school throughout the nation celebrates together.  Despite our rivalries, despite our differences, this week we are united.  I have wonderful memories from all my years in Catholic schools from Catholic Schools Week, and I hope our students have the same!”

The following themes have been created for each day of Catholic Schools Week, and this is how Central Catholic High School will be celebrating:

Sunday - Celebrate Your Parish
Students are encouraged to go to Mass with friends and/or their family and to share pictures of themselves with the priest or outside the church.

Monday - Celebrate Your Community
Central Catholic will celebrate our Irish community and share who we are as a Catholic school by participating in Operation Surprise Attack.  Students will spend time in their theology classes making cards for children with serious illnesses.

Tuesday - Celebrate Students
Upperclassmen will visit Rosary Cathedral School to tutor, connect, and inspire the elementary school students.  Special treats for all CCHS students will be provided by our Parent Impact committee.

Wednesday - Celebrate Our Nation
Central Catholic will have an all-school Mass to celebrate the universal nature of our faith.  Students will learn more about the history of our local churches in their social studies classes.

Thursday - Celebrate Vocations
A career board will be available for students during their lunches to help them determine what God is calling them to do and to be.

Friday - Celebrate Faculty, Staff, and Volunteers
Central Catholic will provide coffee and donuts for staffulty before classes begin.  Staffulty members will also enjoy a dress down day.

Saturday - Celebrate Your Family
Students and their families are encouraged to attend the boys’ basketball game that evening.  It will be “Senior Night” in the Sullivan Center.
