Central Catholic Celebrates Catholic Schools Week on January 28-February 3

Catholic Schools Week is an annual initiative led by the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) to celebrate the excellence and impact of Catholic schools.  Each year since 1974, Catholic schools observe the celebration through a variety of activities, emphasizing the importance of Catholic education.

This year the celebration takes place Sunday, January 28 through Saturday, February 3.  The theme for National Catholic Schools Week 2024 is Catholic Schools: United in Faith and Community.  This theme will be used through 2026.  Throughout the week, schools focus on the value of Catholic education for young people and its contributions to our church, our communities, and our nation.

“During Catholic Schools Week, Central Catholic students, teachers, administrators, and families come together to celebrate and recognize the unique opportunities that Catholic education provides,” said Mary Griffin, CCHS theology teacher and campus minister.  “We engage in activities that show our commitment to our faith and to the community through acts of love and service.”

The following themes have been created for each day of Catholic Schools Week, and this is how Central Catholic High School will be celebrating:

Sunday - Celebrate Your Parish
Students are encouraged to go to Mass with friends and/or their family.

Monday - Celebrate Your Community
Central Catholic will celebrate our Irish community and share who we are as a Catholic school through an activity in our Mentor Monday groups.  We will be helping several local organizations - Cherry Street Mission, Good Grief, Helping Hands of St. Louis, and Mom’s House.

Tuesday - Celebrate Your Students|
Our upperclassmen will visit Blessed Sacrament School to connect and work with the elementary school students there.  Special treats for all students will be provided by our Parent Impact Committee.

Wednesday - Celebrate Our Nation
Central Catholic will have an all-school Mass to celebrate the universal nature of our faith, represented in every country of the world.

Thursday - Celebrate Vocations
Students are encouraged to dress like a saint because each of our vocations, no matter the calling, leads us to strive for sainthood.

Friday - Celebrate Faculty, Staff, and Volunteers
Parent Impact will provide coffee and donuts for CCHS staffulty before classes begin.  Students are encouraged to dress like a staffulty member.
