Football Concludes Non-League Play at Olentangy Orange on Friday

Central Catholic football team will wrap up non-league play when the Fighting Irish travel to Olentangy Orange (0-2) on Friday, Sept. 3. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm in Lewis Center.

CCHS (0-2) is coming off a hard-fought 24-14 setback vs. Benedictine (2-0) on Saturday under the lights at Euclid Community Stadium. The Scarlet & Gray jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, but the eight-time state champion Bengals countered with 24-consecutive points to take control of the contest.

Junior QB Ty’Waun Clark accounted for both Central Catholic touchdowns vs. Benedictine. Clark recorded a 1-yard TD plunge in the opening period and was credited with an 8-yard TD pass to senior WR Sam Lee in the final quarter. For the game, Clark completed 11 of 19 passes for 119 yards.

On the ground, senior RB Josh Watson ran the ball 13 times for a squad-best 41 yards.

Through the first two games, Clark has completed 25-of-41 passes for 236 yards and one TD, while Watson has carried the ball 24 times for a squad-best 118 yards with one score.

The Pioneers, members of the Ohio Capital Conference, enter Friday’s matchup on the heels of back-to-back losses vs. Hilliard Darby, 17-0, and most recently Olentangy Berlin, 31-24, on Aug. 27.

Central Catholic and Olentangy Orange will square off on the gridiron for the first time.

Tickets for Friday’s game will be available for purchase for cash at the gate.

Following Friday’s game, the Fighting Irish will open Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) play versus Findlay (1-1) on Friday, Sept. 10. The opening kick against the Trojans is scheduled for 7 pm in Gallagher Stadium.
