Girls’ Basketball Defeats Reigning State Champion Napoleon in District Semifinal, 47-42

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team posted a dramatic 47-42 come-from-behind win against reigning state champion Napoleon on Thursday in a Division II District Semifinal at Paulding High School. With the thrilling neutral-site triumph, CCHS improves to 23-1 on the season.

The No. 1 seed Fighting Irish trailed 29-19 at intermission, but they outscored the No. 3 seed Wildcats 28-13 in the second half to collect the hard-fought postseason victory.

Sophomore Corniya Clay paced the 2021-22 Three Rivers Athletic Conference champions with 12 points, followed closely by classmate Brooklyn Vaughn with 11.

Sophie Chipps led the Wildcats with a game-high 19 points, while Emma Pedroza added 10.

A season ago, Napoleon registered a 54-38 victory against the Scarlet & Gray in the district semifinal en route to securing the state title.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against St. Marys Memorial on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 6 pm in the District Final at Paulding High School.
