Central Catholic Releases 2023 Football Schedule
Central Catholic has released its 2023 football schedule, Athletic Director/Head Coach Greg Dempsey (Class of 1990) recently announced.
This fall will be the reigning Division II state champion Fighting Irish’s 1st year in the Catholic High School League (CHSL). The CHSL is the largest Catholic sports league in the U.S. with 32 private high schools located throughout southeast Michigan and northwest Ohio. Founded in 1926, it is affiliated with the Archdiocese of Detroit and governed by a board of directors comprised of principals and athletic directors from member schools.
Highlighting the Scarlet & Gray’s fall slate will be home matchups against 2-time defending Michigan state champion De La Salle Collegiate (Sept. 15), 11-time Ohio state champion Saint Ignatius (Sept. 22), and arch-rival St. Francis de Sales (Oct. 13).
Additional highlights to Central Catholic’s schedule will be road contests against rival St. John’s Jesuit (Sept. 29), as well as former Three Rivers Athletic Conference (TRAC) foes Findlay (Aug. 18) and Whitmer (Aug. 25).
The CHSL Championship Game will take place on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Ford Field in Detroit.
The Fighting Irish are coming off a historic 2022 campaign that saw them capture their 5th OHSAA state championship in program history (1962, 2005, ‘12, ‘14, ‘22). CCHS finished with a 15-1 overall ledger and a perfect 7-0 mark in the TRAC, establishing a school record for wins in a season.
