Central Catholic Student Recognized in National Merit Scholarship Program

Central Catholic High School recently announced that senior Eve Anderson has been named a Commended Student in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program.  A letter of commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented by Central Catholic’s principal, Morgan Delp, to this scholastically talented senior.

“We are so proud of Eve and thankful for her teachers, classmates, and family who have helped her reach this achievement,” said Delp.  “She embodies the intellectual curiosity, drive, and critical thinking we promote in our students.  We at Central Catholic are blessed to be surrounded by many students of high academic prowess each year, and it is an exciting occurrence to be able to honor a National Merit Commended Scholar.”

Eve is one of about 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation being recognized.  Although they will not continue in the 2023 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

“This recognition from the College Board means a lot to me, as I have really focused on academics for my high school experience and it feels good to have that rewarded,” Eve said of her accomplishment.  “This commendation has the potential to help me and my parents pay for college in the form of merit scholarships, and I’m very grateful."

“Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC.  “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation.  We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
