Football Hosts Findlay on Friday in TRAC Opener

The Central Catholic football team will begin Three Rivers Conference (TRAC) play when the Fighting Irish host Findlay (2-1) on Friday, Sept. 10. Kickoff is slated for 7 pm in Gallagher Stadium.

The Fighting Irish (1-2), the three-time reigning TRAC champions, are coming off an impressive 28-0 victory at Olentangy Orange on Sept. 3. It was CCHS’s first shutout since a 48-0 home triumph vs. Sylvania Northview in the opening round of the 2020 OHSAA Division II State Playoffs.

Junior QB Ty’Waun Clark registered three of Central Catholic’s four touchdowns against the Pioneers (0-3). Clark, who completed 18-of-23 passes for a season-high 236 yards in last Friday’s non-league finale, was credited with a four-yard TD run and a pair of TD passes to senior WR Sam Lee, covering 21 and three yards, respectively.

Senior RB Josh Watson accounted for the Fighting Irish’s other TD in the shutout win, scoring from four yards out in the third period. Watson, who carried the ball 20 times and posted a season-high 88 yards, has found the end zone in two of the three games this fall.

Lee, who reeled in two TD passes from Clark, finished with a game-high seven catches for a season-best 117 yards. The senior receiver has recorded a TD reception in each of the last two contests.

Defensively, senior LB Chris Jackson totaled a squad-best 6.0 stops, including a contest-high 2.0 tackles-for-loss.

Through the first three games, Clark has completed 44-of-65 passes for 466 yards and three TDs, Watson has carried the ball 42 times for a team-high 206 yards with two scores, and Lee has caught a squad-tying best 16 passes for a team-high 229 yards and three TDs.

Clark is currently third in the TRAC in passing yards, Watson is fifth in rushing yards and Lee is second in receiving yards, tied for second in receptions and tied for fifth in total TDs.

The Trojans enter Friday’s matchup on the heels of a 49-0 shutout victory against Bowling Green last Friday at home. They also defeated Anthony Wayne, 24-14, in their opener on Aug. 20 and lost to Perrysburg, 28-14, on Aug. 27.

Central Catholic and Findlay will square off on the gridiron for the first time since 2019 when the Fighting Irish secured a 42-21 home triumph.
