Girls’ Basketball Defeats Genoa in Non-League Contest, 67-59
The Central Catholic girls' basketball team defeated Genoa, 67-59, on Saturday in the Sullivan Center. With the non-league win, CCHS improves to 4-14 overall.
The Fighting Irish started fast and held a 38-28 lead vs. the Comets at the intermission, helping them snap a 6-game losing skid.
Junior Marissa Justen paced the Scarlet & Gray with a season-high 26 points, including 10 points in the pivotal 1st half.
CCHS also received strong efforts from junior Nina Stevens (15 pts.) and junior Serinity Bolden (14 pts.) in the home triumph. This dynamic duo did a majority of their damage in the opening 16 minutes, combining for 22 points.
Addisyn Moritz led Genoa with 21 points, while sister Makenna Moritz had 16 points.
Earlier in the afternoon, the CCHS junior varsity squad sustained a 40-32 home loss vs. the Comets.
