Get to Know CCHS Staffulty Member - Vanessa Fuernstein

Vanessa Fuernstein, Central Catholic’s new accounts receivable specialist in the Finance Department, may look familiar.  That’s because she worked as the resident director with AVI Foodsystems at Central Catholic from July 2019 until December 2021.  She and her husband moved to Rochester, Minn. and she worked at the Mayo Clinic.  But after being gone for a year, they decided that being far away from family and friends (plus the sub zero weather) wasn't as easy as they thought it would be.  Her husband found a position in Ann Arbor and they moved back.

After getting settled, Vanessa began to think about what she would like to do, and she realized how much she missed Central Catholic.  Her previous position had been filled, so she went online and found that there were open positions at CCHS within her skill set.  After a couple of interviews, several phone calls, and some paperwork, she landed in the Finance Department.  Her main duties now include handling student tuition accounts.

Outside of work, Vanessa enjoys spending time with her family.  Her husband, Scott, is the Director of Retail Food Service at the University of Michigan Hospital; her daughter, Jackie, is a special needs teacher in Arlington, Va.;  son, Lance, is serving with the Infantry Division of the Army and is stationed in Germany; and they have three fur babies: Charlie, Roger, and Craig.

“Our favorite thing to do in our down time involves FOOD!” Vanessa said.  “My husband is a chef, and we love to try out different kinds of food and new restaurants, but our absolute favorite is to have family and friends over to just eat great food and hang out.  We're really excited for the warm weather to start so that outdoor cooking and sitting out on our patio can begin!”

“I'm so happy to be back at Central Catholic!” she added.  “The warm welcome from so many of the staffulty and the students has been nothing short of amazing.  It feels like HOME!”
