Girls’ Basketball Defeats Mercy on Road, 66-48

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team defeated Mercy, 66-48, on Friday in the MHS Gymnasium. With the impressive road victory, CCHS improves to 12-6 overall, 7-1 in the Catholic High School League.

The Fighting Irish outscored the Marlins 20-4 in the 4th quarter to record their 5th win in the last 6 games.

Senior Corniya Clay paced the Scarlet & Gray with a game-high 23 points and 4 assists.

Senior Brooklyn Vaughn added 16 points and a contest-best 15 rebounds, while classmate Sophia Farrugia had 10 points and a season-high 11 caroms to post double-doubles.

Aizlyn Albanese led Mercy (7-6, 6-4 CHSL) with 22 points for Mercy.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman team registered a 37-34 victory against the Marlins, while the junior varsity squad secured a 33-27 road triumph.

Central Catholic will return to the court against Regina on Wednesday, February 7 at 7:15 p.m. in the Sullivan Center. Prior to the game, CCHS will honor seniors Corniya Clay, Lauren Dempsey, Sophia Farrugia, Aubriana Moroyoqui, and Brooklyn Vaughn. Tickets are currently available at bit.ly/3GUM8lG.
