Girls’ Basketball Defeats State Ranked Ottawa-Glandorf in Overtime, 56-51

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team claimed a 56-51 overtime victory against Ottawa-Glandorf in a battle of state-ranked teams on Saturday in the Sullivan Center. With the extra-period triumph, CCHS improves to 15-1 overall.

Sitting at No. 2 in Division II, the Fighting Irish were led by junior Corniya Clay with 15 points.

Senior Jada Dames and junior Brooklyn Vaughn each contributed 11 points, helping the Scarlet & Gray claim its 14th-straight victory. Vaughn added a squad-best 17 caroms to post yet another double-double.

Central Catholic also benefited from 9 points by senior Jai’Lynne Hitt-Swartz and 7 points from classmate Mary Ellis to outlast the Titans, ranked No. 3 in Division III. Hitt-Swartz was at her best in overtime, tallying 7 points in the extra frame.

Earlier in the afternoon, the CCHS junior varsity team dropped a 49-33 decision vs. visiting OG.

Central Catholic returns to the hardwood against Fremont Ross on Monday, Jan. 23. The opening tip versus the Little Giants is scheduled for 7:30 pm at “The Purple Pit.” Tickets for Monday’s conference matchup MUST be pre-purchased online at bit.ly/3XOex3b. Back on Dec. 8, CCHS defeated the Little Giants 62-58, in the Sullivan Center.
