Girls’ Basketball Suffers 62-49 Setback at Fremont Ross
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team suffered a 62-49 setback against Fremont Ross on Monday in “The Purple Pit.” With the loss, CCHS falls to 15-2 overall, 9-1 in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.
The Fighting Irish were outscored 28-16 in the second half vs. the Little Giants (16-2, 8-2 TRAC), snapping their 24-game league winning streak.
Despite the road setback, Central Catholic remains in 1st place in the TRAC with 4 league games remaining.
Ranked No. 2 in Division II state poll for the 2nd-straight week, the Scarlet & Gray was led by junior Corniya Clay with 18 points.
Classmate Brooklyn Vaughn added 13 points and a squad-best 9 rebounds, followed by senior Jai'Lynne Hitt-Swartz with 8 points.
As a team, the Fighting Irish shot 36.5 percent (19-of-52) from the field, including 4-of-10 from beyond the arc, and 87.5 percent (7-of-8) at the charity stripe.
Destiny Robinson paced host Fremont Ross with a game-high 28 points and 10 rebounds, while Janiah Holmes contributed 16 points and a contest-best 16 boards.
Earlier in the evening, the CCHS junior varsity team dropped a 36-30 decision vs. the host Little Giants.
Central Catholic returns to the hardwood against St. Ursula Academy on Thursday, Jan. 26. The opening tip versus the Arrows is slated for 7:30 pm in the Sullivan Center.
