Girls’ Basketball Prevails Against Notre Dame Academy Away from Home, 59-52

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team tallied a 59-52 victory against Notre Dame Academy on Thursday in the LaValley Gymnasium. With the road win, CCHS improves to 10-1 overall, including a perfect 6-0 in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

The Fighting Irish took control of the league showdown with a pivotal 25-1 run in the 1st half, helping them secure their 9th-straight triumph.

Junior Brooklyn Vaughn led CCHS with a game-high 18 points. The 2021-22 1st-team All-TRAC honoree has now scored in double figures in every game this winter.

Central Catholic also benefited from 13 points by junior Corniya Clay and 11 from senior Jai’Lynne Hitt-Swartz, propelling the Scarlet & Gray to its 21st-consecutive TRAC win.

Dekota Smith paced the host Eagles (5-6, 3-3 TRAC) with 17 points, followed by Nina Sims with 10.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS freshman squad lost to NDA, 33-26, while the junior varsity squad suffered a 30-29 road setback.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against conference-rival Whitmer on Monday, Jan. 9. The opening tip versus the Panthers is scheduled for 6:45 pm in the Sullivan Center. Tickets for Monday’s matchup MUST be pre-purchased online at bit.ly/3EjJhky.
