Girls’ Basketball Prevails Against TRAC Foe Fremont Ross at Home, 62-58

The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team registered a 62-58 triumph against Fremont Ross on Thursday in the Sullivan Center. With the hard-fought win, the Fighting Irish improve to 4-1 overall, 3-0 in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference.

In a battle between the top 2 programs in the TRAC, CCHS outscored the Lady Giants 23-9 in the pivotal 3rd quarter to take control of the matchup.

Junior Corniya Clay paced the victorious Scarlet & Gray with a season-high 19 points, including a huge 3-point field goal with 22 seconds left in regulation to break a 55-55 tie.

Senior Mary Ellis and junior Brooklyn Vaughn also contributed 11 points each, helping Central Catholic stretch its league-winning streak to 18-consecutive games dating back to the 2020-21 season.

Destiny Robinson scored a game-high 23 points for visiting Fremont Ross, while Carma Johnson and Janiah Holmes had 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Earlier in the evening, the CCHS junior varsity squad also defeated the Little Giants, 43-24.

Central Catholic will return to the hardwood against rival St. Ursula Academy on Monday, Dec. 12 at 7:30 pm.
