Girls’ Basketball Steamrolls St. Ursula Academy in Quarterfinals of CHSL Tournament, 54-14
The Central Catholic girls’ basketball team steamrolled St. Ursula Academy, 54-14, in the quarterfinals of the Catholic High School League Tournament on Saturday on the campus of Brother Rice. With the impressive neutral-court victory, CCHS improves to 14-6 on the season.
The Fighting Irish recorded their 3rd victory against the rival Arrows this season, defeating them 52-15 at home (December 16) and most recently 53-33 on the road (January 17).
Senior Brooklyn Vaughn and sophomore Serinity Bolden each scored 9 points to lead the Scarlet & Gray. Vaughn nearly posted another double-double, pullng down a game-high 18 rebounds.
CCHS also received 8 points from both senior Sophia Farrugia and sophomore Nina Stevens to mount a balanced attack.
Taleen Boman paced SUA (2-14) with 6 points.
The Fighting Irish will now take on Notre Dame Academy in the tourney semifinals on Tuesday, February 13 at 7 p.m. on the campus of Detroit Catholic Central in Novi. CCHS swept the regular-season series vs. the Eagles, defeating them 50-44 on the road (January 10) and most recently 44-36 at home (January 31).
