Girls’ Basketball Trio Earn All-CHSL Accolades

Three members of the Central Catholic girls’ basketball team garnered All-CHSL accolades, the Catholic High School League announced over the weekend.

Highlighting the Scarlet & Gray’s selections were senior Corniya Clay and classmate Brooklyn Vaughn, who were named to the All-Catholic Team.  This dynamic duo earned all-conference laurels for the 3rd-straight year.

In addition, senior Sophia Farrugia received All-League honors and was picked to the All-Academic squad.

CCHS, which posted an 8-1 mark in the 1st season in the CHSL, will compete against rival Notre Dame Academy in the semifinals of the CHSL Tournament on Tuesday, February 13 at 7 p.m. on the campus of Detroit Catholic Central in Novi. Central Catholic swept the regular-season series vs. the Eagles, defeating them 50-44 on the road (January 10) and most recently 44-36 at home (January 31).

If the Fighting Irish defeat NDA on Tuesday, they will play the winner of Mercy vs. Father Gabriel Richard in the league championship game on Saturday, February 17 at 5 p.m. in Calihan Hall on the campus of the University of Detroit Mercy.
