Fighting Irish Duo Garner All-Ohio Accolades
Central Catholic boys’ basketball players Isaiah Brenneman and Michael Greenlee Jr. collected All-Ohio Division II recognition on Thursday according to the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association. Brenneman was named Special Mention All-Ohio, while Greenlee was tabbed Honorable Mention all-state.
The OPSWA was created in 1972 to support, promote, and recognize coverage of high school sports across Ohio and is endorsed by the Ohio High School Athletic Association.
A junior, Brenneman averaged a team-high 12.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game. He scored in double figures on 19 occasions, pouring in a season-high 22 points against arch-rival St. John’s Jesuit on Jan. 20. Brenneman shot a squad-best 47.4 percent (94-of-198) from the field, including 38.8 percent (26-of-67) from 3-point land, and 73.3 percent (63-of-86) from the charity stripe in 22.9 minutes per contest.
A senior, Greenlee contributed 10.3 points, a team-best 5.1 caroms, a squad-high 2.7 helpers, and 1.4 thefts per contest. He scored in double digits on 11 occasions, tallying a season-high 20 points against Findlay on Dec. 20. The 2022-23 team captain converted 41.5 percent (81-of-195) from the floor, including 51.5 percent (17-of-33) from beyond the arc, and 72.3 percent (47-of-65) from the free throw line in a team-high 24.0 minutes per game.
Brenneman and Greenlee played integral roles in the Fighting Irish posting a 20-5 overall record and an 11-3 ledger in the Three Rivers Athletic Conference, capturing a share of the championship in the league’s final season.
