Scarlet & Gray Quartet Earn All-Northwest District Laurels

Four members of the Central Catholic boys’ basketball players earned Division III All-Northwest District recognition, as selected by a panel of media members for the Ohio Prep Sportswriters Media Association.

Sophomore Isaiah Mack-Russell was named 1st-team All-Northwest District, junior Manny Johnson was tabbed 2nd-team, while junior Draden Wardrop and sophomore Cayden Kynard were chosen honorable mention.

The trio of Mack-Russell, Johnson, and Wardrop are garnering All-Northwest District laurels for the 2nd-straight year.

A 6-foot-5 wing, Mack-Russell averaged 18.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He shot 49.1 percent (163-of-332) from the floor and 80.9 percent (106-of-131) from the free throw line.  Mack-Russell scored in double figures on 22 occasions, including a season-high 27 points vs. Michigan Collegiate on February 21.    

A 6-foot-3 guard, Johnson registered 12.6 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 4.3 apg, and 1.9 spg.  He converted 51.9 percent (93-of-179) from the field and 65.5 percent (36-of-55) from the charity stripe. Johnson scored in double digits 12 times, including a season-best tying 21 points on 3 occasions.

A 6-foot-3 guard, Wardrop tallied 12.3 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.4 apg, and 1.4 spg.  He shot 51.4 percent (95-of-185) from the floor, including 41.8 percent (41-of-98) from 3-point range, and 64.5 percent (40-of-62) from the free throw line.  Wardrop scored in double figures on 15 occasions, including a season-high 26 points vs. Start on February 4.

A 6-foot-0 guard, Kynard contributed 10.6 ppg, 3.2 rpg, 3.9 apg, and 0.6 spg.  He converted 42.6 percent (92-of-216) from the field, including 28.2 percent (20-of-71) from beyond the arc, and 69.9 percent (51-of-73) from the charity stripe.  Kynard scored in double digits 15 times, including a season-high 21 points vs. Sylvania Southview in the OHSAA District Finals on February 28.

This quartet recently helped CCHS secure its 4th district championship in the last 5 years and an appearance in the regional semifinals.
