Welcome Back Alumna Becca (Barrow) Buckman ’04, Director of Vocal Music
Central Catholic’s Director of Vocal Music, Becca Buckman, joined the CCHS staffulty for the 2nd time this past fall. She previously worked here in the same capacity from 2020-22. When she was a student, she appeared in the CCHS productions of Brigadoon and Anything Goes, and played the lead role in Peter Pan her senior year. She was a featured dancer and student choreographer, as well as dance captain. She is also the daughter of Debra Barrow, who served in Central Catholic’s music department for 24 years, teaching our Glee Club, piano, and chorus classes, and directing our incredible spring musicals.
Becca has a Bachelor of Education degree with an emphasis in vocal music from the University of Toledo. She teaches Mixed Chorus, Glee Club, and beginning piano classes at CCHS.
“I wanted to teach at Central Catholic because I have a deep love and respect for the school and its spirited community,” said Becca (Class of 2004). “I made lifelong friends as a student, I truly feel at home here, and I’ve developed a strong passion for teaching these students.
“I had excellent teachers and mentors throughout my years at CCHS, people who recognized my strengths and pushed me to go further. Everyone from English teachers like Mrs. Dahlin, to the school nurses, Mrs. Florian and Mrs. Kleeburger, who helped me through 2 difficult knee surgeries. Mrs. Florian has become a lifelong friend. I also had strong mentors in the music department who helped me develop my skills and gave me the opportunity to use them as an actor, choreographer, artistic director, vocalist, and vocal coach.”
Becca is a strong believer in the arts and what they teach, including confidence, cooperation, connection, commitment, and communication. She learned these things as a student and continues to develop them as a teacher, sharing what she has learned with new generations of Central Catholic students.
“Music uses every part of the brain, and it is exciting to see my students develop and grow as individuals, leaders, and artists,” she explained. “My students and I continue to raise the bar in Glee Club and share the benefits with new students as we bring in more members.”
Outside of the classroom, Becca enjoys hiking, rollerblading, swimming, traveling to visit friends, and of course spending time with her 3 daughters, Zoe (13), Ava (12), and Morgan (10).
