Top Seed Boys’ Basketball Trounces No. 8 Seed Rogers in Division II Sectional Finals, 80-49

The Central Catholic boys’ basketball team registered an 80-49 victory against Rogers in the Division II sectional finals on Friday at Bowsher High School. With the neutral-court win, state ranked CCHS improves to 19-4 overall.

Junior Isaiah Brenneman paced the No. 1 seed Fighting Irish with 17 points, followed closely by sophomore Makhi Leach and senior Noah Langford with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

In total, 12 CCHS members found the scoring column against the Rams, including 4 points from senior Chico Johnson. The 2021-22 1st-team All-Ohio honoree saw action for the 1st time this season, missing the opening 22 contests while rehabbing a knee injury sustained last summer.

Shawn Coleman led Rogers with a game-high 18 points, while Tray Booker chipped in with 14 points.

Ranked No. 6 in the final Associated Press D-II State Poll, Central Catholic will now face No. 5 seed Port Clinton in the District Semifinals on Thursday, March 2 at 8 pm at Lake High School. The Fighting Irish will battle the Redskins for the 3rd-straight year in the state tourney. CCHS won both previous postseason matchups, claiming a 50-20 victory in the 2021 Sectional Final at home and a 50-29 triumph in last year’s District Semifinal at Lake.
