Tyler Morgan, Isaiah Fox, & Dominic Spinazze II Selected Football Captains
Senior RB Tyler Morgan, senior QB Isaiah Fox, and senior TE/DE Dominic Spinazze II have been named captains for the Central Catholic football team, 25th-year head coach Greg Dempsey recently announced. The trio was selected based on votes by their teammates.
“I think our team made outstanding choices for captains,” Dempsey said. “We consider our seniors as the leaders in the program, and a season will go as well as your seniors’ lead. Dominic, Isaiah, and Tyler have all shown their teammates that they exhibit the qualities that they believe a captain should possess to be a captain for our program.”
Last fall, Morgan rushed for 1,055 yards on 156 carries (6.8 ypc) and scored 25 touchdowns, Fox competed 15-of-20 passes for 120 yards, and Spinazze caught 3 passes for 27 yards, while also recording 7 tackles and 1 sack on defense.
The Fighting Irish are coming off a historic 2023 campaign that saw them capture their 6th OHSAA state championship in program history (1962, 2005, ‘12, ‘14, ’22, ‘23). CCHS, which is currently riding 31-consecutive wins, posted a perfect 16-0 overall ledger and a 6-0 mark in its 1st year in the Catholic High School League (CHSL). They outscored their 6-league opponents by a whopping 31.8 points per contest (41.5-9.7).
Central Catholic has been picked to successfully defend its Central Division championship in the CHSL in a vote by the conference’s head coaches. The CHSL, which was founded in 1926, is the largest Catholic high school league in the United States with 32 private-school members from around southeastern Michigan and Toledo’s 5 Catholic high schools.
Central Catholic will kick off its 2024 campaign against Findlay on Friday, August 23. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. in Gallagher Stadium. Season tickets are currently on sale at CentralCatholic.org/tickets.
